Walking by Faith on the Pilgrimage of Life (9:41)

Ordinary Time, 11th Sunday. God invites us to trust in Him instead of in ourselves. This is what it means to "walk by faith." This is what we experienced on the walking pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. Our life too is a pilgrimage towards God. We have to learn to trust in Him.

America used to trust God but has begun relying on our own technology and our own ingenuity. Consequently, we have begin to experience the effects of our own choices in the breakdown of society and the loss of peace. Our world too seems to be coming apart at the seams. The year 2011 had an unbelievable number of natural disasters; it was the costliest year in terms of disasters in recorded history. We had tsunamis, droughts, wildfires, tornados, hurricanes, floods, cyclones, earthquakes, and a nuclear-reactor melt down. Is God punishing us? No, not really. God is trying to remind us that we are not in control. These disasters should show us how weak we are and how we have to turn to Him for our safety and hope. Jesus predicted these kinds of things when he appeared to a little Rwandan boy in 1982 and 1983. We wonder about the end of the world because we want to know when we really have to get serious about our faith and live according to God's will. The answer should be obvious:

Today.

Quotes from The Boy who met Jesus, Segatashya of Kibeho by Immaculée Ilibagiza:

"In the last days the sun will become very hot, and countless people will die from famine and other calamities that will follow this famine. There will be many temptations from the devil in those times because there will be greater suffering on Earth than the world has ever known before....

"Families will start fighting each other when human beings have grown weary of living in a world filled with so much suffering. People will have had enough of the world, and the world will have had enough of people. The sin of man will become so great that misery will give birth to misery."...

"There will be many earthquakes in all the corners of the globe. In some paces the sun will beat down so relentlessly that the earth will dry up and crops will fail year after year. Winds will carry away all the soil, and never-ending rains will bring great flooding. Hunger will grip many nations. Many will fight each other for food, and scores will starve to death."

"Do not be afraid, but have faith! For those who love God and do good will come with me to heaven and never be tempted again. But hurry, for there is little time left.

Tell the people that if they have me in their hearts, they need to be frightened of the suffering of the last days. But they must stay faithful to God and be wary of the many tricks and deceits Satan will employ to lead them into sin and darkness...."

"But it is vital not to be preoccupied with the collective last day. The most important thing for the people of the world to be concerned with is their individual last day, because that can come at any time, and one must always make sure that their soul is prepared to meet the Lord...."
